Why offer an English version of the „ABC“? At first sight this dictionary-like paper is a collection of keywords mainly having to do with German affairs. But the problems it deals with turn out to be of rather general nature since, independently of our respective language, we all are subject to similar influences. Among these language plays a central role. We seem to live in an Orwellian age. Language is becoming more and more unreliable, the same is true of history that we are told, and of moral, legal standards. It is the author’s endeavour to counteract this trend by way of utmost precision of expression. If this aim is given up, the gate is open to complete loss of orientation the consequences of which are depicted so convincingly by Confucius. In this sense the “ABC” is meant to serve mutual understanding and peace between the nations. Kyffhäuser-Faksimile-Verlag, Mengerskirchen 2016, 51 Pages.
