Kurzbeschreibung

This volume deals with the venation patterns of more families than the Combretaceae. It includes 11 other smaller families of the Myrtales. Takhtajan (1969) lists 15 plant families which makeup the Myrtales. Of these, the Myrtaceae with 100 genera and 3000 species is the largest family and its venation patterns were described in volume 3, (Klucking, 1988),of this series. The venation patterns of the Melastomataceae with 240 genera and 3000 species and the Memcylaceae with 4 genera and 360 species were described in volume 4 of leaf venation patterns,(Klucking, 1989). The present work, volume 5, describes venation patterns from the remaining 12 families of the Myrtales. Leaves from nearly one third of the species of the Combretaceae were obtained for clearing and describing. Since this is the largest representation of any of the 12 families considered volume 5 is titled Leaf Venation Patterns of the Combretaceae. The Onagraceae, the largest family of the remaining 12 with 21 genera and 640 species is very poorly represented because the family is composed of mostly herbaceous plants. Because of the thinness of these leaves, they are very difficult to obtain from herbarium sheets and also very difficult to clear. This family is represented in this volume by the leaves of a single genus, Fuchsia, whose species are woody.
