Following the demand of many scientists, experts, and leading companies, the Hamburg University of Technology organized the 2nd International Workshop on Aircraft System Technologies AST 2009. The proceedings of the event comprise more than 40 high-quality contributions which were selected from a call for papers.
The contributions presented at the workshop address the fields of Airframe Systems and Equipment, Cabin and Comfort as well as Materials and Production.
In the first chapter dealing with Airframe Systems and Equipment, topics such as simulation of aircraft system design, energy optimization, high lift systems, aircraft power and air supply, as well as cooling systems are discussed. Additional papers are related to special topics, such as more electric aircraft, ACAS-monitoring, actuation systems, testing environments including ground vibration tests, prognosis and diagnostics concepts, automation technologies, and reduction of operating costs in air transportation.
The second chapter is devoted to Material and Productions. It starts with a report on integrated knowledge management, followed by contributions on slat design, analysis and manufacturing as well as on the bird strike resistance and impact damage on composite structures. Next some more production oriented topics are presented, where laser technology is used for freeform fabrication of components and processing of fibre reinforced plastics. The chapter is closed by a contribution on holistic methods for the development of modular product architectures.
The topics with respect to Cabin and Comfort are treated in the third chapter. Starting with some investigations on future cabin management systems and RFID technologies, the noise impact on passengers and the crew is investigated. Here not only a sound pressure reduction is discussed but also the subjective assessment in controlled aircraft cabin environments is addressed. The chapter continues with contributions dealing with VoIP over WLAN, wireless inflight multimedia networks and entertainment, IFE installations, and some visionary integration concepts for aircraft cabin interior. Finally, special topics such as display designs, air quality comfort, and MIMO wireless communication are addressed.
For practicing engineers and scientists working in one of these areas the proceedings will be a valuable source of information.
