Smart City. A term, many interpretations. What all of them have in common is the effort to find an answer to a very important question: How can we face the challenges of our growing metropolises? Smart solutions must be found soon, since more than half of the world´s population already lives in urban areas. Prediction for 2050: more than 70 percent.
In this book, 67 Viennese scientists analyse what that means for urban planning, environment, mobility, housing etc. in the case of Vienna. In 27 essays they explain their visions of a future-proof city and thus reinforce Vienna´s internationally recognized role as the world´s number one in the smart city field.
Introductory texts to the four chapters "city & planning", "energy & buildings", "mobility & networks" as well as "environment & climate" were provided by renowned science journalists Astrid Kuffner and Juergen Hatzenbichler.
